Using Workflow-based Systems for eServices Provision

چکیده
The use of electronic commerce is spreading day to day to reach environments that have been rather unexplored until this moment, such as governments and administrations. More and more, administrations offer on-line services to the citizens of their countries or regions. It is becoming necessary to have a mechanism for the formal definition of these on-line electronic services (or e-services). Doing so, we would be able to automatically build systems capable to manage these new e-services. An important feature of e-services is that a workflow can be defined to control their development. These concepts do not only apply to e-government, but also to e-business and e-commerce in general. Early experience on the provision of professional e-services has helped us to take this approach. In this paper we present how e-services using workflow-based systems can be defined in a formal way with the target of building them automatically. For this purpose, we specify a method for expressing workflow information with XML and DAML-S and, more generally, to define workflow-based e-services. A functional model with the involved entities completes this. Finally, a real implementation of e-services is introduced. 1

The Internet Enterprise
In this paper we present our vision of the Internet Enterprise: a highly interoperable, virtual enterprise infrastructure for individuals, small businesses, and large corporations. In the Internet Enterprise (IE), any service provider can enable its business to be programmatically accessible on the Internet (becomes an e-service). Enabled by a scalable brokering service and an inter-organizatio...
متن کاملBrokering Based Self Organizing E-Service Communities
The rapid evolution of the Internet and its business tools is enabling the transformation and deployment of business processes as highly modular e-services that can be flexibly and dynamically composed to form ad-hoc workflow. This research prepares for the proliferation of automated, Internet-based workflow, by contributing a suite of protocols for self-organizing brokering communities that en...
متن کاملInteroperability and eServices
eServices are the building blocks for loosely-coupled, distributed applications based on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles. One of the major benefits they offer is interoperability both between components of service oriented systems and between different systems. Still, the variety and diversity of implementations and interpretations of SOA and the vast amount of emerging stand...
متن کاملCross Organisational Workflow Co-ordinated by Software Agents
We assert that a layer of software agents, that co-ordinate the distribution of work via negotiation, is the proper software abstraction for the development of cross-organisational workflow management systems. We support our assertion by describing: the use of software agents to provision distributed workflows; the role of agents to facilitate workflow interoperability; agent-based techniques f...
متن کاملArchitectural Plan for Constructing Fault Tolerable Workflow Engines Based on Grid Service
In this paper the design and implementation of fault tolerable architecture for scientific workflow engines is presented. The engines are assumed to be implemented as composite web services. Current architectures for workflow engines do not make any considerations for substituting faulty web services with correct ones at run time. The difficulty is to rollback the execution state of the workflo...
